Macy Got an Owie

After all of our water fun on the 4th, Macy and Tyler were jumping on the tramp.  We were all out there, but missed exactly what happened.  All I know is Macy was on her belly and crying.  I went to cheer her up and had her follow me to my chair and she wouldn't walk.  After a little while of holding her and cheering her up, we found she still wouldn't walk on it.  Somewhere below her right knee was really hurting so we headed to get x-rays.  I had visions of her running around in a cast (just like Tyler did before his second birthday) and couldn't believe 2 of our 3 kids were going to have a broken leg and both before their second birthday.  She fell asleep in the car right away, thankfully, but woke up only twenty or thirty minutes later really sad about her hurting leg.  *Note: it only took maybe 25 min to get to the St. George Instacare, but they had a long wait ahead of us so we went for a little drive to pass the time and let her nap a little longer.  So much for that great plan.

Colby decided to grab a water and a snack from Target and Macy made sure to cheer right up before he made it back to the van.

She is the cutest little character.  Even when she was really hurting.

We had a really long wait in the doctor's office.  The doc's first evaluation was that she most likely had a spiral fracture in the small bone in her shin (just like Tyler had) so he ordered x-rays.  Turns out, there were five other people needing x-rays ahead of us so we sat and waited and waited and sat.  Macy still couldn't walk on it or put any weight on it, so we had to get really creative to keep her entertained.  She does not sit still.  Ever.  Taking selfies worked for a little while.  Colby got a good nap in as well.

Once it was time for her x-ray, she was hysterical.  She didn't like the room.  She didn't like laying on the table.  She didn't like the lead blanket.  She didn't like Daddy holding her down.  She didn't like the x-ray tech.  She didn't like any of it.  So the poor guy taking her images gave her as many stickers as he could so she might cheer up.  It didn't make a difference until she was sitting back in the exam room, but they kept her rather busy until the doctor came in to tell us the results.

Turns out, no breaks.  Just a sprain or deep bruise that left her in a lot of pain for almost two days.  But she's a determined little bugger and was back on it, walking with support of the wall, chair, or anything else she could find by the next day.  By the second day, the only real evidence of her injury was slightly less jumping and a little less aggressiveness in her climbing.

We are happy to report she's as good as new and the cutest little patient.

Macy :: 14 Months

This girl is getting big!!  She's 14 months now, does more running than walking and more climbing than sitting.  She's starting to communicate... starting being the key word.  She's got one word that means just about everything.  It seemed to start out being "na" for snack and now "na" means; snack, bottle, outside, walk, banana, done, look and whatever else she wants.  When she combines a head shake it means no and comes out "na na na."  She used to kind of say cheese and done but it's kind of all coming out the same right now.  It's most clear when she grabs her sweater (outside) or points to her stroller (walk).

Macy LOVES going on walks!!!  Marshall's school is doing a marathon challenge where they add up all the distances they walk up until May 9 and they'll do the last mile of the "marathon" together, so we've been going on more walks lately and Macy doesn't complain one little bit.

She's doing better about letting me do her hair.  We often pull the top into a side ponytail or braid and I have put pig tails in once or twice.  She used to wrestle and wiggle all over the place and get really upset, but I think she realizes it helps her hair stay out of her eyes and cooperates even if she doesn't like to sit still.

She's definitely a daddy's girl.  Colby's been working in Kanab lately and usually gets home right around bedtime so maybe once or twice a week she's already in bed when he makes it in the door.  When she is up, she almost screams Dad! Dad! Dad! and can't wait to get snuggles from him.

She's getting awfully bossy lately and kind of reminds me of Marshall when he was little.  Because they can't put their thoughts and feelings into words, they just use their muscles or tears to get what they want.  I remember wondering if Marshall would ever be nice about getting what he wanted and once he could talk he was a dream.  So I'm counting on that for Macy too.  If she's even half as thoughtful and sweet as her brother she'll be ok in my book.

She's bossy, but she's cute too.  She still loves shoes and necklaces and likes to love on her babies and stuffed animals.  And she LOVES her blanket.  She has other funny antics that are so girly that I just love.  Like this morning, Tyler and I went in to get her out of bed and she put both hands up over her mouth like she was so surprised and pleased by the attention she was getting.  It was soooooo cute!

Here's an example of her wildness.  Since she could walk, she's loved to climb onto this stool in  the bathroom and I hate it.  She's totally going to step right off of it sometime and crack her head open or knock out a tooth or something.  Well yesterday, she wasn't content to stand on her tippy toes to try and reach the faucet... she figured out the top of the cupboard door might lift her right up to the counter.  The stool was put away immediately.  Her wild side is going to be the death of me.  We were sitting in sacrament meeting last Sunday and something she was doing reminded me of the movie "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" and I half chuckled and half cried at the thought.  She really is determined and brave and I am glad for it.  But I'm also scared.  It's a weird mix of emotions.

I promise to post some updates about the boys soon.  They're not changing as rapidly as Macy, so I think I forget to document the wonderful things they do on a daily basis.  But they are just as special and totally hilarious.

Macy Turns ONE :: The Party

We had Macy's birthday party yesterday afternoon and it was such a great time with our closest family (we totally missed those that live far away though...).  This little girl is so loved.

A while back I was in Target and came across some darling party stuff that left me totally inspired.  I didn't know what direction to take it into right away, but I bought up a lot of "stuff" just in case it all sold out before birthday time came around.  By "a while back" I mean probably summer time.  Haha.

After a little pondering, I knew just what we would have to do!  A circus party!!!  If I'm being totally honest, it did cross my mind to track down a magician, and a clown, and some fun animals, but then I remembered I was planning a party for a one year old.  We would be lucky if she cracked a smile and went along with opening presents.  So I scaled back my thinking a bit and just found a few special details and spent the rest of the time leading up to her birthday loving on her cute little face.
I ordered the invitation from this super great Etsy shop, called Picadilly Lime.
Thank goodness for others who sell their talent on the internet!

I got really excited about the little details for the party and was really pleased with how it turned out.  I think there were just two more little things I wish I had thought to do before the day of.  I won't mention them though, because I don't want to take away from all the cuteness that did come together.

I'm positive the gold animals were my favorite detail.  Everyone made sure to comment on them too, which totally made my day!  I'm really glad I took the time to make the poster that highlighted Macy's life right now.  I've spent way too much time on the computer doing work lately that it would have been really easy to just skip it, but I just couldn't.  That was probably my second favorite detail.

Huge shout out to my awesome sister-in-law, Cassadee, who made the fabulous cupcakes.
She's seriously amazing and I couldn't thank her enough.  If anyone local wants some for any event, I'll get you her #.

Here's the birthday girl herself!
She took everything rather seriously so I'm glad I got a photo or two of her toothy grin.

Pretty sure this was the only time she smiled with the cake in front of her too.  She gets into everything, all day long, so I was sure it would be no different with cake and presents, but not so.  She was very deliberate and dainty and really just wanted the individual sprinkles and would have been happy if there wasn't cake and frosting in the way of those.  Haha.  Silly girl.

She was very funny about the presents and wouldn't open a thing and didn't really crack a smile.  Colby had to open every one of her presents.   She was definitely ready to be done once she had opened up two baby dolls and strollers!  They were a total hit.  I know she loved every gift though.  She woke up bright and early today to play with all of them.

She did a great job sharing the strollers with cousin Harper, but was happiest when she had both.
What a lucky little lady.

We had a photo booth too, and I plan to blog those pictures ASAP.  They were so hilarious.

The party was totally fun and I'm, again, so grateful for all the love that was showered on our little Princess yesterday.

I feel like I live with Curious George.

So... the other night Colby and I are just enjoying a night at home.  Those are rare these days, plus it was a Sunday and I cannot think of a Sunday in the last 8 years that we have just stayed at home for no reason other than we didn't want to leave.  We usually really enjoy going to visit the grandparents on Sunday evenings, but this was a rare treat to just be at home just because.  I digress...

So we're at home enjoying some TV, or something, when Colby says, "Uh oh... Mommy's gonna love this," or something like that.  I stand up to find this.  Macy is all about discovering things lately and she LOVES to empty things.  It really doesn't matter what it is either.  So she managed to find a moment alone with her box of wipes and had almost every single one out around her.  Isn't she so funny...?

After sneaking a quick picture before she knew I was on to her, I jumped in front of her and asked what in the world she was doing.  This face I got in response is so classic.  "What?  I'm just doing what I'm doing.  Why are you taking pictures?"  She doesn't even act guilty!  Haha.  By this point, all of the wipes had escaped their container and were mostly all separated from each other.  I'm just glad it was an easy fix.

Lately we have had to keep the garbage can up on the counter top or shut in the pantry, keep the bathroom shut and the toilet closed, all papers that are on the fridge need to be at least 2 1/2 feet up from the floor, and I've considered buying cabinet locks even though I despise the inconvenience.  She empties her basket of toys out whenever she finds them put away, and I clean the floor of the pantry almost daily since she likes to scatter cookie cutters and bags of crackers all over the floor.  She's cute and curious and I'm trying to decide if her curiosity is harder or the same compared to the boys since she's mobile months before they were.  It's a little hard to remember, but some things feel very familiar.  Just today I told Tyler about how I remember him doing the same exact thing with the papers and magnets on the fridge.

Well then.

I got home from an all day YW activity today and was worried that Macy was giving Daddy a run for his money.  Turns out they were fine!  She had woken up right before I got home giving Daddy enough time to change her diaper and hand her a Twinkie.  Yuck!!  I hate those things and don't think they are good for our bodies and I had to just stand by and watch this little girl make quick work of that big fat treat.

I think she thought I was going to take it away, which I had thought about but figured I'd let Dad have his fun for once.

She loved it!  Haha.

This is her proud little face once she had finished it off.
She seriously ate the whole thing except for the last bite she shared with Dad.
Again... yuck.

For the argument that Dads are cooler.

I can't remember what I had going on, but the other day I had Colby help me out and feed Macy her cereal.
She's kind of a take charge personality...

I loved her silly face covered in cereal.
She was so proud of herself for getting herself fed and she surely preferred Dad's method over mine.

Big Things for Macy

Macy is growing by leaps and bounds these days!  And she's still as sweet as ever.

This week she turned 7 months, started crawling (ugly army crawling but she's mobile), and cut her first tooth all within a few days.  Teething has been a little rough on the poor girl... she went from sleeping entirely through the night (for months now) to waking up at least once or twice and she fussed a lot.  Actually, probably not a lot in regular baby terms but compared to her usual nature it was hard on all of us.

She's a busy, busy girl.  I call her my little tornado because she really never sits still.  She goes from thing to thing allowing only a couple seconds of attention for each.  She loves being outside, loves animals, and loves getting smiles and attention from everyone.  She's not too wary of strangers, but she definitely prefers Mom or Dad.  The only time she really sits still is when she watches TV with Daddy. At nights she will just lay by him or cozy up on his lap and just be so content.  It's sweet.

She has arms like Elastigirl.  She can seriously reach anything and is quick as a cat- even before she figured out the crawling thing!  She's always grabbing at cups, utensils, pretty much anything big people use.  One day I was sipping out of a straw and right before I got it to my mouth she had snagged it and whipped it into her own mouth.  It was pretty alarming and funny.  Now that she can get around on her own we have to be so careful about what is within reach.  Especially paper.  She loves to eat paper.

She has a happy-go-lucky, fun personality.

She likes to laugh to herself while we drive.

Getting put in her car seat makes her really mad.  That's the only time she does her super dramatic squealy, screechy cry.  It's annoying but still adorable.

She wears mostly 12 month size clothes, but for some brands it's 18 month.

At her 6 month check up she weighed 18 lbs and was 26.5 in tall.  That's the 86th and 77th percentile.

She loves to eat solids, Little Puffs and peas are her current favorites.

She is still nursing, but tolerates formula from time to time, the last few weeks it has been almost once per day.

She LOVES to swim.  Just the sight of water makes her kick and giggle and get totally excited.  She really doesn't even mind it on her face either.

We love this little lady!

Such A Great Brother

A couple of weeks ago I caught Marshall being the sweetest brother ever.  We had been outside reading and I can't remember what pulled me away, but I saw this out the window and had to grab my camera.  I can always count on Marshall to step in and help me out when I need it.  I love the way he gets creative to keep her happy and entertained.  One of his go to solutions to a fussy sister is to set up a laundry basket with a pillow and toys and pushes her around in it like a fancy car.  Or he will sit with her on the trampoline while I water the garden.  He rocks at singing to her and talking nonsense to get a smile out of her.  He's just so great.

The Fancy Parts of Easter 2013

Here we are seconds before church.  Macy was so so tired so she wouldn't move a muscle in her face.  Marshall is going through "the phase" that all kids get to where they think way too much about what their face looks like when they smile.  Tyler didn't want to wear this suit but started catching on to how cool it was.
I'm gonna dig out the picture of Colby in this same suit so I can dedicate a post to the work of art all it's own.  This is the coolest kind of hand me down.

Macy and Daddy.

Now prepare yourselves for the many faces of Macy.  I saved my very favorite picture of her for last.

Our pretty little girl.

So grateful our Savior made it possible to return to him and our Father, in a perfect resurrected body and have the chance to be all together as an eternal family.

Macy Lately

Not sure what got into this little princess while I was taking her picture on Easter, but right now she is being as cute as can be.  I'll post some more cute pictures from that session soon.  She's currently chatting with her butterfly teething toy... going on and on... hamming it up with a forced giggle here and there.  She's totally distracting me from what I am trying to accomplish on the computer.  She's pretty much always distracting me from whatever it is I'm trying to do.   I let her though, because she'll only be little for a millisecond and I can't get enough!

She's a week shy of 5 months old now and wears mostly 9-12 month clothes.  She rolls over like a champ, onto her belly and back, but only to the right though.  It totally made me think of Zoolander the other day and I laughed about it for a while.  She is sweet and friendly... always has a smile ready for whoever will give her a little attention.  She likes to be outside and especially loves to watch Daddy mow the lawn.  She's been sleeping at least 8 hrs straight at night since she was 6 weeks old and will generally sleep from 9 pm until 8:15 am when I grab her out of bed to take Marshall to school.  She's gone along with me for a few runs lately and seems to mostly enjoy her time in the stroller as long as she can see what's going on- having the seat totally reclined back is a major no no.  I think it's safe to say Marshall is her favorite person in the world closely followed by Tyler, Daddy, and Mommy.  She doesn't mind wearing headbands and hats, and I hope she doesn't decide to pull them off any time soon.  She very rarely cries but has figured out how to get exactly what she wants by pulling the saddest face and belting out that cry for all it's worth.  That really only happens when you wipe her nose or walk away from her while she wants to play.  I have probably a hundred pictures of her sucking on her fingers... that's her favorite thing ever.  I'll have to blog a few of them sometime soon.  Usually it's the middle and ring finger of her right hand, but if she can get anyone else's fingers then she will grab them and pull them right to her mouth to bite and bite and bite.  Pretty sure she's teething... and has been for at least a month.

We love her sweetness and her chubby rolls.
I can't get enough of her squishiness and love to just sit and pinch her and watch her smile from all the attention.
