Out Of The Blue

This last weekend I had the chance to help photograph an engagement.  One of the guys that works for Colby (who is distantly related and has been dating a family friend from our ward) had planned to propose to his girlfriend with a flash mob.  It was so cute and I was so excited to get to witness it and capture some of it in pictures.  It was on a Saturday that Colby was working and most of our regular babysitters (like the WHOLE family) was busy, so I took the boys with me out to Tuacahn where it was all happening.  I was really glad Megan could come along and help me out.  She entertained them while I worked and entertained me on the drive as we drove back and forth across the county.

The kids wouldn't leave until they got a chance to have their picture taken in the Aladdin caricature.  (That night was a Hairspray performance so Aladdin's side of the photo op was not busy.)
Surely no picture taking is complete with these kids before we get a silly picture too.  I sure love them.

And so, another season at Tuacahn has come and gone before we could watch one of their great plays. We've missed Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Grease, and more.  Maybe next summer we'll be on the ball.  I hear they're presenting Mary Poppins!  I really hope to make that happen.

Telegraph Job :: Visit 3

Tonight the guys were working late, so Grandma called us up to see if we wanted to go take dinner to them.  They had a pour that had to get done and they didn't know how late they'd be there.
We got there a little before Grandma, so we snapped a few pictures...

... and wandered around.  We were near Cottontown Village and Marshall spotted this rustic backdrop and told me he wanted me to take their pictures.  I thought a fun photo session was in store.
But no.
This is how they behaved the whole time.  Silly boys.

I did catch a calm smile or two.

Kind of.

Getting the job done.

Then we found a good spot to just sit and watch and eat our dinner.
How cute of these kids... watching their daddy do what he loves.
Maybe someday they'll love it too.

Telegraph Job :: Visit 2

We took another opportunity to visit Daddy at work.  They were setting the tops of the box culvert and Colby thought the boys would really enjoy seeing the crane.  They did too.

I love this little series where you can see how excited the three of them are to see each other.

Daddy shared some of his pizza with the boys.

Notice Marshall at the top of the dirt pile... he never misses a chance to play in dirt.

We weren't the only ones visiting that day.

The next generation.

It was kind of cool to see the process of setting those enormous concrete pieces.
Construction is amazing.

Telegraph Job :: Visit 1

This month is going to be a busy one for Colby.  IRP has a few big jobs that need a lot of attention in a little time so he's working a ton.  For the next couple weeks he's down at Willow Beach for the first half of the week, then spends his weekends working here in Washington City on the Telegraph Rd. project.  They are on a strict time line, so they're working on it as much as possible.  It's convenient though, that its so nearby, because we just jump in the car and go watch him work and sometimes get to eat lunch with him.

Today was our first visit.

They have many days of pouring lots and lots of cement.

This made me laugh, like father like son... they love their Dr. Pepper.

Cute boys.  (I guess Tyler wasn't a fan of his hard hat.)

They are replacing this old bridge and building a big box culvert for the water to flow through.
Like I said, lots of cement.

The kids sat right here for the longest time throwing rocks and smashing dirt clods.

After a while, Marshall got bored of that and thought he might be able to climb the giant wall of dirt.
He worked on it for a good ten minutes I bet.

And finally made it up!

Blue Springs Reservoir

This fall Blue Springs had to be drained in order to repair the head gate.  We headed up one afternoon when Colby and his dad were going to be diving and working on some of it.  I snapped some pictures of the water level in order to show Chase (since he's halfway across the world on his mission) but they don't seem to do it justice.  The water was so low! and it got even lower once they were able to pull the head gate.  Too bad I never got pictures of that.

I couldn't decide which photos showed it best, so I've posted two.

The boys with Colby before he went in and got COLD!

Craig is the one in already... Colby's about to go.

Here's the encouraging, relatively warm crowd.

I wonder what the water temp was... since it was November and all.

Fourth Generation

Greetings from the 4th generation of Interstate Rock Products. Our Great-Grandpa and his brothers started this great company and we've made our start on our career path. Last week I, Marshall, and my brother Tyler and my cousin Karter went to visit our dads at work.
I enjoy my chances to work alongside my dad and grandpa.
My mom loves this picture. She says the hard hat makes me look so grown up and my dark eyes melt her heart.
There were mountains all around us and I wanted to dig the big mountain. I told my mom one of the mountains was "a huge, amazing mountain Marshall's ever seen!"
Dad got me out of the car and Mom left to go see more of the jobsite. When she came back I was already hard at work and she suddenly saw me all grown up. I had to remind her that I'm still only 2 even though her imagination goes crazy sometimes.
I'm good at digging dirt. I like to do any kind of work.
My mom says my smile melts her heart too.
We're so grateful for the many sacrifices made to create a company that has provided our family with everything we have. My dad loves his job and loves letting me learn alongside him. I love my dad.

What Boys are Like

These pictures really show what Marshall is all about. He LOVES all trucks...but he especially loves the big yellow ones. Daddy and Grandpa starting him operating equipment at a very young age. At one year old he can tell you which is a loader, backhoe, dozer, roller... its been really fun to watch him become such an expert.

This is his standard facial expression whenever he is working. He gets so focused and seems annoyed when I try to talk to him about what he is doing. It just cracks me up!

This picture brings such joy to my heart. Marshall looks up to his daddy so much and it seems like Colby looks to Marshall with the same kind of adoration and eagerness to learn. The two of them in this big, bad world are a force to be reckoned with. No job could ever be too big for the two of them.

I am so thankful for these two boys in my life. I can't imagine what I would be missing out on if I did not have them. Love you boys.
