Favorite Book
I haven't read an entire book in far too long.  Too long to remember, but more importantly, too long to admit.  I've liked a slew of different books but I'll mention just one... series... that will forever be in my heart as a favorite book.
the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books
I loved those books.  As a child, they spoke to me.  I even loved them more than the Amelia Bedelia books.  You can be sure my kids will hear Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle stories at bed time throughout their childhood.

Haha.  Favorite TV show...  This list is miles longer than it should be.  I never used to be a huge TV watcher and in fact plan to cancel our satellite subscription before the end of the year.  But that doesn't keep me from filling my DVR with a handful of different shows that I can't help but love.  I think my habit started when Colby was working out of town and I found myself staying awake until 2 am, unable to fall asleep.  I figured on those hard nights I'd lay awake in bed for hours or I could fall asleep watching TV.  So, the list goes by the day it records on my DVR.
  • Iron Chef America
  • Giada at Home (love her food!!!)
  • House
  • Kate Plus 8
  • NCIS
  • NCIS: Los Angeles
  • The Biggest Loser
  • 19 Kids and Counting
  • MODERN FAMILY!!!! Oh, how I love this show!
  • America's Next Top Model
  • Cougar Town (I try not to love it... but I can't help it.)
  • The Office
  • House Hunters
  • Say Yes to the Dress
  • Pretty Little Liars
  • The Marriage Ref (That show was hilarious!!!)
The one show that will always have a place at the top of the list is Friends.  I love that show.  I have the entire series on DVD and used to have it beyond memorized... where did my memory go since I've had kids?  Oh yeah, my Uncle Jeff taught me that one long ago, "my kids definitely got my wife's brains."  Buh, duh, duh, chh!  Anyway, I love it and passed that love on to my siblings and my baby sister shamelessly quotes it to her peers that just look at her and wonder what she could possibly be talking about.  I'd love for there to be some kind of Friends reunion.  I realize that's unlikely so I plan to enjoy Modern Family as the chart topper for currently running shows.

Oh the joys of having boys.

For a while now we've been celebrating the fact that Colby's parents are collecting a bunch of future missionaries as grandchildren.  No girls yet... and Cass's new baby is gonna make 4.  So the Three Amigos will be adding another bruiser to their clan.  It's taken a while, but these three finally really capitalized on their role of rough and tough grandsons.
Notice all three of these boys are sporting minor boo boos.  Karter bumped his eye on a potted plant, Marshall tripped and hit his eyebrow and between the eyes on the arm of a patio chair, and Tyler tripped on his towel after swimming and face planted on the pool deck.  It was a rough week at Grandma's house.
Marshall's owie definitely takes the cake though.  The first day his bumps were really only swollen.  No real color.  But then the battle scars progressed.  Here's a play by play through pictures.
You'll notice the day of that its hard to see exactly what happened.  Notice his left eye looks a little heavy because it is swollen along the brow line.  I should have taken a picture Sunday evening... he looked like Quasimodo or something with a big old knot between his eyes.
These last few were from this afternoon.  The color has gotten progressively darker and spread into a double black eye.  The poor kid looks like he got in a fight or something.  On Sunday he saw himself in the mirror and laughed, "I look like a different kid!"  Every time we ask him if it hurts he tells us no.
I'm not sure what this kid's head is made of, but he sure is tough!

 Favorite Movie
I am not a serious critic.  I don't think too far ahead while watching.  I just like to be moved.  Sad movies hold a special place in my heart because they feel "real."  Some of my favorite movies, in no particular order, are:
  • Hope Floats
  • Moulin Rouge
  • Zoolander
  • Life is Beautiful
  • How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith
  • Big Daddy
  • Gone in 60 Seconds
  • Pearl Harbor
  • Stepmom
  • P.S. I Love You
  • Romeo & Juliet (done by Baz Luhrmann)
  • Just Married
  • Ratatouille... any Pixar film actually
  • The Notebook
Not that any one of these are at the top of my list at this exact moment, but they have all held the "favorite" spot at one point in time and I still love them.  Basically, I love a good chick flick, something to make me laugh, and a little suspense is always appreciated.  I realize there's not a lot of representation in the Suspense department, because I can't think of an individual movie, but I like most of them as long as there's not an excess of stereotypical MAN stuff, I like it.  And there is a difference between suspenseful and scary.  I am NOT a fan of scary.

I'm kinda diggin' this idea my best buddy Tianna got me thinking about.  And so I commence:

My favorite song... um... that's hard.  Last week I discovered "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars and instantly fell in love with it.  I was reminded by many that its not necessarily a NEW song, but for a girl who drives around with a broken radio I'm kinda out of the loop.  I rely on periodic Pandora sessions while I clean or cook and on my sister who really knows what I like.  Oh, and I find a lot of my favorite songs from TV shows.  A lot.  Much of my iTunes library is built from these three sources.

*disclaimer*  If I don't post EVERY day, don't give up on me.  I promise to catch up!

It needs to be colder.

I found a great recipe for some of those ingredients I mentioned before.  You can find it HERE.
It was so yummy.  I used frozen corn because we apparently cooked up all of the fresh corn on Sunday.  I also think it could use potatoes if you wanted to make it a little more hearty.  Use a little more broth if you do though.  I've never had poblano peppers (as far as I know) and when I tasted it, both fresh and roasted, it was pleasantly spicy.  I got worried that the soup would be too spicy for my little ones, but it wasn't.  It was delish.  Kinda like a white chicken chili...  The only real improvement I could think of is to take away the heat from outside.  It was much too warm today to be eating soup.

Requesting...

Anyone have some yummy recipes using any of the following?:

tomatillos
poblano peppers
jalepeno peppers
corn on the cob
cabbage

I know I can just utilize the internet and search on my own (or use them in the obvious ways), but I thought getting some input from actual people would be much more satisfying!  Thanks for the help!
